Baltimore Native Keisha Brewer Builds Momentum With PRoconnect LIVE

Special to the Baltimore Times

For Keisha Brewer, bringing PRoconnect LIVE to Baltimore was more than a stop on a tour. It was a homecoming.

Brewer, a Baltimore native, is the CEO and lead strategist of The PR Alliance, a full-service public relations agency, and the founder of PRocon, a professional community and conference created for public relations, marketing, media and communications professionals. After the success of PRoconnect LIVE Baltimore, the growing conference experience is continuing its tour with an upcoming stop in Philadelphia.

But before the next city, Brewer is reflecting on what it meant to bring her work home.

“Baltimore shaped my leadership in every way possible,” Brewer said. “It taught me resilience, creativity, community, and perhaps most importantly, the confidence to dream bigger than what was in front of me.”

That confidence was shaped early. Brewer credits her parents with modeling the grit, hustle and perseverance she now brings to her work. Her father, born and raised in Baltimore, owned and operated his own mechanic business in the city for decades. Through him, she saw entrepreneurship as a way to create opportunity for oneself and others. Her mother, born in Philadelphia and raised in Baltimore, built a respected career in Corporate America and showed her what it looked like for a Black woman to push boundaries and thrive.

“I was raised by two people who embodied grit, hustle, perseverance, and possibility,” Brewer said. “That’s Baltimore to me.”

Those lessons are now reflected in Brewer’s leadership style, which she describes as collaborative, visionary and people-centered. Since launching The PR Alliance in 2017, she has grown from an entrepreneur focused on proving herself into a leader committed to mentorship, delegation and sustainability.

“I’ve learned that effective leadership means building systems, trusting your team and creating opportunities for others to lead as well,” she said.

PRoconnect LIVE is an extension of that philosophy. The Baltimore event brought together professionals across public relations, branding, social media, journalism, marketing and digital media for workshops, conversations and networking centered on community and professional growth.

For Brewer, the mission is rooted in access.

“Access changes everything,” she said.

Throughout her career, Brewer saw talented professionals who had the skills to succeed but did not always have access to the rooms, relationships or information that could help them advance. PRocon was created to help close that gap by building a stronger, more connected communications industry.

“Some of the biggest opportunities in my career didn’t come from a job posting or a classroom,” Brewer said. “They came through relationships, conversations, mentorship, and people willing to open doors for one another.”

The success of the Baltimore stop affirmed the need for spaces like PRoconnect LIVE, especially for freelancers, entrepreneurs, early-career professionals and creatives navigating industries that are constantly evolving.

As the tour moves to Philadelphia, Brewer is carrying Baltimore’s spirit with her. She describes leadership as service and stewardship, grounded in emotional intelligence, communication and the ability to evolve.

Her advice to women, creatives and young professionals is simple: know your value.

“Building influence isn’t about becoming the loudest voice in the room,” Brewer said. “It’s about becoming a trusted one.”

From Baltimore to Philadelphia, Brewer’s mission remains clear: create access, build community and help communications professionals lead with confidence and purpose.
