Four finalists will battle it out at NBA 2K23 in Baltimore, MD for a prize pool of $6500

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 20, 2023)— Students across the 12 member institutions of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) can register now for the 2023 U.S. Army CIAA Esports Experience presented by Wendy’s.  

The U.S. Army CIAA Esports Experience will feature various gaming tournaments, headlined by a bracket-style, single-elimination NBA 2K23 tournament modeled after the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA)’s annual basketball tournament.  

The CIAA will be gifting a paid trip to Baltimore, MD for four students to compete in the finals of the conference’s NBA 2K23 Esports Tournament with a prize pool of more than $6500 on the line. The winner of the NBA 2K Esports Tournament will receive $3,000, followed by $2,000 to the runner-up, and $1,000 and $500 for the third and fourth-place finishers, respectively. In addition to the cash pot, students can sign up to win prizes such as a controller, a headset, and a Nintendo Switch. Each of the four finalists will also receive a trophy to commemorate the experience.  

The Finals of the NBA 2K23 Esports Tournament will take place at the Baltimore Convention Center on February 25, 2023, during Fan Fest of the 2023 CIAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament. 

Registration is scheduled to tentatively close on January 22 and is open to any current CIAA student. Interested CIAA students can sign up via this link. In addition to NBA 2K23, the CIAA Esports Experience will also be offering completely virtual tournaments in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Rocket League. 

The 2023 U.S. Army CIAA Esports Experience, powered by BU Gamerz, will be live broadcasted on the conference’s Twitch account. The Twitch streams of the NBA 2K23 Esports Tournament and the Super Smash Bros. Tournament will also feature a shoutcaster, a color commentator specific to Esports.
